Radiating a unique charm and beauty of living, a small tourist and fishing village of Funtana is located south of Poreč. On the side facing the sea, Funtana is surrounded by numerous coves and islets, and on the inland side it is protected by pine and oak forests, vineyards and olive groves.
Funtana is located along the Poreč – Vrsar road, where many family houses have been built and there is not one that will not take in a guest during the summer season.
Dedication to tourism of this small coastal town is also noted in the number of restaurants and cafes clustered on a small area, which gives it special appeal and uniqueness during the summer months.
Well-groomed campsites, blended with the environment, as well as number of hotels are to be found along the coast. Funtana takes pride in being able to accommodate as many as twenty thousand guests per day.
This village, situated on the west and most indented coast of the Istrian peninsula, developed on a slight elevation right by the sea, when at the beginning of the 17th century, a nobleman named Bernardo from the Koper family Borisi had built a castle and a church. Around this castle and this church, typical Istrian stone houses had been built over time.
Funtana is famous for its freshwater springs near the sea, that were used by the inhabitants of the castle and nearby communities during great droughts. During high tide, the springs would turn salty due to sea water ingress, and when it receded they would again provide freshwater. Here, at the springs of friendship, green oases of the sunny Mediterranean await you.
